All fans of F1 have watched the incredible year that Sebastian Vettel has just had. Winner of many races and the closer of so many events, he is taking home the 2011 FIA Formula One World Champions title. It is no surprise, even amongst the sport’s harshest critics, that the FIA Prize has gone to him this time given that he is such a renowned F1 driver.
Vettle, who hails from Heppenheim in Germany, previously won the trophy back in 2010 and reclaimed his title this year, with greater ease. In his first year driving for Red Bull-Renault, he was the youngest ever runner-up in the World Drivers’ Championship.
The much awaited Grand Gala event of the FIA and F1 was held on Friday, December 16th and visited by some of the biggest stars that the racing world has ever known, from old racers to rising prospects, and many more besides.
The star of the show, an obviously thrilled Vettel, was quoted as saying “I have had the trophy in my house all year and didn’t want to give it back, so this means a great deal to me. It’s hard to put into words how it feels to win again; the team stayed focused and made few mistakes and I would like to thank them for all their impressive efforts. I would also like to thank Renault who worked so hard all year. The history of Formula One means a lot to me and it’s special to know that we are now somehow a part of that.”
This astonishing athlete has had quite a run. He never was a leader in the 2010 competition, but on the last day he took home the prize by sheer determination. This year, he has led from the beginning to the end. It really has been one formidable run for the amazing Sebastian Vettel.
